Why do people disagree about the Ford Fiesta Mk5 name?

Fiesta generation numbering differs between markets and communities. Greasemonkey Prints uses Mk5 for the revised 1999 to 2002 car because that is Jonathan’s established poster name. Another source may call the same body a Mk4 facelift or move every later Fiesta number by one without describing a different physical car.

A generation number is shorthand, not a globally unique identifier. If two sources count the early cars differently, their later numbers remain offset. Renaming one catalogue entry in isolation would make the site contradict itself across the Mk5, ST Mk6, ST Mk7 and both ST Mk8 faces.

The practical answer is to state the convention and add the years and picture. This guide means the face Jonathan drew from 1999 to 2002. The replacement introduced around the 2001 to 2002 transition is a visibly different car and does not belong under this artwork.

What history should an older Fiesta have?

The engine wording stays exactly as Jonathan used it: “1.3L Straight 4”. The 59 bhp figure is deliberate because the commonly quoted 60 rating is PS. The poster uses bhp consistently with the rest of the catalogue.

Open the Fiesta Mk5 builder when the face and 1.3-litre block match. Another engine or a visibly changed car needs a checked custom request, not a plausible substitution.

Which sources and limits support this Fiesta Mk5 guide?

Jonathan’s finished poster and 31 July 2026 decisions control the catalogue name, range, drawing and figures. Ford’s UK service interval document and official parts catalogue support the family date boundary and engine variety. GOV.UK supplies current MOT records. This guide cannot diagnose or value a car.
