Why is the font only one part of a legal number plate?
A road plate also needs the correct character arrangement, spacing, reflective colours, supplier marking and applicable British Standard number. A correct typeface cannot rescue a rearranged registration or a non-compliant plate construction.
Current GOV.UK guidance says front plates use black characters on white and rear plates use black on yellow. Plates fitted after 1 September 2021 must carry BS AU 145e and use a single shade of black. Use a registered supplier for a road-going replacement.
