How do you confirm a genuine DC5 Integra Type R?
Confirm the complete Japanese DC5 Type R model identity from chassis and registration evidence, then make the engine, six-speed transmission, helical LSD, brakes, body and interior agree. A DC5 shape or group of Type R parts does not prove the original version alone.
DC5 names the Integra generation. Honda launched the iS and Type R together, so an advert that stops at “DC5” has not established the performance version.
Compare identifiers on the car with its Japanese and UK paperwork. Investigate mismatches, altered stampings or documents that describe a different grade. A qualified importer or Honda specialist can interpret evidence that a generic history check cannot.

Honda also records four multi-reflector headlights, Type R aero pieces and body reinforcement. Those visible and structural details support the version but must be read with the model record.

Which import and mileage records should a UK DC5 have?
Build a timeline from Japanese export or history evidence, import date, UK registration, MOT entries, mileage units, ownership, servicing and modifications. A later British registration and a shorter MOT trail are expected on an import, but unexplained gaps and unit changes still need evidence.
The current MOT-history service shows recorded tests, mileage entries and defects for the period it covers. It does not reconstruct the years before the car entered that record.
Label kilometres and miles separately. A speedometer conversion, replacement cluster or odometer change should have a date and reading so the sequence remains intelligible.
Use the official recall route and ask Honda how an individual Japanese-market chassis is checked. Market and identifier matter more than a broad UK model search.
Read invoices for named fluids, parts, mileage and work. A stamp without supporting detail is one piece of evidence, not a complete maintenance story.
How should you inspect the DC5 body and previous repairs?

Honda’s release specifies multiple synchronising cones and a lightweight flywheel in the Type R transmission. Those factory details do not reveal current wear or later replacement parts.
Observe every gear during an ordinary legal drive without forcing hurried changes. Record whether a problem appears cold, warm, under load or on overrun.
A replacement clutch can change pedal effort and engagement. Ask for its make, specification and installation record instead of assuming stronger is better.
The LSD is part of the Type R reference but requires the correct test and interpretation. Tyre mismatch, geometry and road surface can confuse a casual driving impression.
What should you inspect in DC5 brakes, steering and suspension?

Honda’s launch release names Recaro front seats and a Momo leather steering wheel. Those components can be removed, retrimmed or fitted to another version, so they are supporting evidence.
Test each warning lamp through its self-check. A lamp that never illuminates can conceal the same information as one that stays on.
Inspect seat mounting, harness additions and removed trim carefully. Safety equipment and structural mounting need professional judgement where changed.
Added alarms, audio, gauges and ECU controllers should have documented wiring. Neat visible mounting does not prove the connections behind the dashboard.
How should you assess a modified or track-used DC5?

Track use is context, not a verdict. It can bring careful maintenance or hard use without records. Inspect measured condition and the schedule the car actually followed.
Separate visual changes from mechanical output. A bonnet, bumper or wheel affects artwork. A camshaft or ECU change affects specifications only when its result is properly sourced.
Do not use the highest past dyno number after the engine or calibration changes. Keep each result with the configuration that produced it.

Use a legal, insured drive from cold to normal temperature, covering controls, ordinary acceleration, every gear, steady speed, braking and manoeuvring. Reinspect afterwards, price unresolved work and budget for import-specific parts, insurance, immediate repairs and regular specialist maintenance.
The test is not an acceleration run. Observe temperatures, warning behaviour, steering, braking, shift quality, noises and whether the physical car matches its written story.
Record the condition that produces any symptom. A vibration under braking, at one speed or under load leads to different workshop checks.
Replace “cheap fix” with a quote. Diagnosis, access and earlier modifications can cost more than the visible part.
